We're midway through the month of February which subsequently means that we're midway through Black History month as well. Typically around this time of the month, the celebration and enthusiasm for black power starts dying off as people start looking ahead to the month of March, warmer temperatures, and the Spring season. Not me, and certainly not this year! I chose to celebrate my blackness 24/7, 365.
When I was younger I used to get teased horribly about how dark I was (throw in the fact that I was Nigerian-- and the bullies had a field day). This was something I unknowingly carried with me until I left for college (and later met someone who appreciated me as I was, and praised natural beauty **Cue the hub-bae, Nicholas**). Thank God for growth and change!
A couple years ago I made a whoooooole video highlighting 50 Reasons I LOVE My Blackness. So check out the video from my pre-#LiveRichMommy days, when I was still a slim thick somebody just sharing some of the reasons I've grown to love and appreciate my complexion! I can't wait to raise Arria to appreciate her natural beauty too-- dark skin, big curly hair, beautiful eyes, and all. :)
