Our Little Slice of Paradise
How I feel when I think about the goodness of God and His favor on my life...
Praise God, to Him be all the GLORY, HONOR, and but above all: PRAISE!
Hey there Richsters,
So I've been a little MIA the past couple weeks, but with good reason: if you've been following me on instagram then you obviously know that we've been adjusting to being new parents of two-- but what you may not know, is that we've recently also moved!
I'd been living in Kearny for the past 7 years. A lot of growth took place in that apartment: I moved in with my bestie, Sheryl, when I was 23. Since then, she moved across the country to LA (and back), I've had a couple of roommates, Nick moved in, we got married, and I've become a mother! So as sad as I was to leave my museum of memories, I couldn't help but jump and twirl for joy. You see, the biggest blessing of this move is not simply that we've moved, but that we're officially homeowners! Gaaaahhhhh I can barely believe it myself; but seeing that we've been here for about a month now, it's safe to say that we can stop pinching ourselves. This dream is definitely a reality!
Nick and I began to talk about home ownership and investing in real estate early last year-- though we had no idea how it would be feasible. I haven't worked a traditional full-time job since November 2016 when my department was shut down. After getting laid off, I opted to be a "stay at home"mom (with the intention to return to work once Arria hit 6 months old). ...Then we discovered that I was pregnant just a few months later (in June), right before my 30th birthday. Since then, I have worked a couple of freelance gigs, while working on a few personal projects. Needless to say, budgeting can be tough when living off of one income-- but by the grace of God we've been clothed, fed, clean, smiling, and thriving!
Of course we were excited with the news of our pregnancy, but the thought of where we would raise our second child gave me serious anxiety. Luckily my husband, Nick, is a total rockstar, and he's WAY better at handing stress than I am. He kicked into high gear with our "new home" search. Considering that our expanding family would soon be maturing to school age, a great school district was at the top of our priorities. This said, we STILL didn't know exactly where to start our search.
Fast forward two months, Nick mentioned that he'd been perusing the internet and had found an affordable condo in Chatham. For those of you who don't live in New Jersey, Chatham is a pretty pricey melanin-void town, with an AMAZING school system (according to USNews, it ranks "#181 inNational Rankings #8 in New Jersey High Schools #126 inSTEM High Schools"). Personally, I'd never heard of Chatham (Nick had); but after reading those stats we were sold on the idea of living in the area, but just weren't sure how. Operating on faith, we went to see the space anyway. We fell in love with the home (and its owner).
...That was in October of last year (I was 4 months pregnant with Jaiyce), and Arria was giving us a run for our money. We started packing up our Kearny apartments a little before Christmas (2017) but 6 months (and a lot of stress) later we still weren't sure if we would be moving.
On New Year's day I put our new home in prayer, and positive intentions surrounding it into the universe (when I added it to my vision board). I also started to draft this blog post a few days thereafter (on January 10th, 2018). We didn't close until almost 3 months later, but it EVENTUALLY happened!
There's so much I can say about this time of discomfort, and how for months we weren't sure if we would actually be getting the condo-- but those are other stories, perhaps for another time. For now, all I will say is that WE ARE ABSOLUTELY in LOVE and feeling to blessed to be in our new space. It's beautiful, peaceful, quiet, green, clean, and perfect for our growing family. The last homeowner kept referring to this condo as one of her life's greatest blessings (besides her family)-- this was her "little piece of heaven". There may not be any palm trees involved, but this idea has been transferred to our journey-- this place is truly our little slice of paradise! Arria is enjoying running around and having space in her new room-- while I'm loving the idea of a starting fresh and home design inspiration.
When I tell you that God's hand all over this entire process, words can't even begin to describe! There were so many moments leading up to the day of our closing that could have led to things going, another way-- but God meant for us to be in this space-- if for no other reason, so that I can be here writing this post, glorifying his name and sharing a positive word for someone who may need it. Your time is coming. Don't shut down. Don't give up. Stay prayerful, and stay positive. God knows what's best for you and your situation. ...That and, children come with blessings man! haha
I look forward to sharing more about our new space with you as we get acclimated to the area, and involved in the community. So please stay tuned! I'd love to hear from you about a time when God has shown up, showed out, and made a way where there was seemingly no way. Please share in the comments below, and until the next time, #LiveRi¢h, and Happy Dream Chasing!
