Beetle Juice Luxe (for Under $30)!
This week's Thrifty Thursday Inspiration comes courtesy of Beetle Juice, the movie. Just kidding, but seriously though, I'm sure that anyone who remembers that movie probably immediately associated this outfit with it before even reading the title of this post. With the iconic black and white stripe combination, it's hard not to make the association, right?
Well, as memorable as the movie may be, I must admit that the famed movie reference was not what inspired this outfit. Truth be told, the cost and fit of this dress deserve all the credit!
Speaking of cost, let's get into the cost breakdown of what may be one of my current favorite thrifty find!
Where I scored the finds:
Sunglasses: I got these from a vendor booth for 5 bucks at the Philly Uniquely YOU Summit in 2015
Dress: Salvation Army (Harrison, NJ)
Shoes: Marshalls (Kearny, NJ)
Earrings: My Handmade jewelry line, QuÉrica Jewelry ($19)
Necklace: My Handmade jewelry line, QuÉrica Jewelry ($25)
What I love most about this dress (aside from the fact that it was half-off!), is the way it moves and how forgiving it is. I've really been struggling a lot with the fact that my body doesn't look the way that I want right now. I know, I know, I just birthed a tiny-human just 3 months ago, and I should be a little kinder to myself. Trust me, I know-- but I can't help but feel the way I feel (there's a whole post coming on that later). In the meantime until I get my life and my body in order, I'm left to using fashion as a means to shape the body that I want-- or at least create the illusion of it.
My style has always involved oversized pieces/moo-moo like pieces (it's a big part of the reason why I never had to invest in maternity clothing). Now that I'm about 40 pounds heavier than my pre-pregnancy weight, those pieces still fit but they don't quite fit the same way on account of my melon-sized melons, among other things. That said, I've been avoiding loose fitting pieces altogether, but this one I love. The dress is so comfortable (and with it being an open-back halter), it's an understated sexy. Subtle sexy is my favorite kind of sexy!
Typically they say avoid stripes because they make you look wide; but seeing that these are vertical, maybe they lengthen me out? Who knows! All I know is that the A-line silhouette of this dress looks and fits great! Another plus is how simple as the dress is; it can be dressed up, or dressed down depending on the shoes and accessories that it's paired with. Stay tuned for a 1 Dress - 3 ways post sometime in the future!
With all of the goodness I've mentioned so far, it's hard to believe that I still haven't mentioned the best part, right? Here it is: No bras and body-shaping underwear necessary! As a matter of fact, the only downside that comes to mind, is the fact that it doesn't leave me easy access to Jaiyce's milk-factory, bka my boobs.
...And as you can see, he wasn't too thrilled about it. lol
But at a price-point of less than $10, this dress just had to come home with me (I'm sure he understands). :-P
This look is perfect for a comfy-chic street stroll, like the one I took with Arria (after having chase her up the street, of course).
Shorts: A Grandma buy (from Babies R Us I believe)
Kitty Sandals: $14.99 (Marshalls)
I hope you're all walking into a fabulous weekend! I understand that your feelings about this look may not be black and white (haha-- I'm so corny), but are you feeling this striped look? Let me know in the comments below!
