Floral Sashays and Sun Rays (For under $86)
Hey there live rich lovers!
It's time for another Thrifty Thursday!!! Woohoo!
You're probably looking at this post's headline and thinking "90 bucks for an outfit isn't thrifty shopping," but that's not true! The most expensive parts of this look were the accessories-- and if there is ever anything you should "splurge" on investing in when it comes to fashion, it's accessories.
This week's look is a nod to the official start of summer, and nothing says summer quite like a comfy flowy sundress! I particularly love this one (not only because it was on super-sale), but because its sooooo breezy, has an innocently sexy element of an open back, and it allows me quick easy access to my boobs for quick feeding sessions. There's a lot more to love about this dress, and I want to talk about it all-- but I know what you're really wondering is how much did everything cost. Let's get into it, shall we?!
Okay, now that that's been handled, I know what comes next. "Erica, where did you dig up your thrifty fashion finds?" Luckily I'm a sharer of good news (like Jesus loves you!)... and quite obviously, where you can buy great fashion for less. lol ;-)
Where I Shopped the Looks
Purse: A Random Thrift Store in the Lower East Side
Dress: Urban Outfitters
Belt: 2nd Ave. Value Stores (Baltimore, MD)
Necklace: Gifted from my little sis, Beverly (for Mother's Day!)
Bracelet: Street Vendor purchase from Cuba
Watch: Bloomingdales (brand: Toy Watch)
Ring: from my handmade line (QuÉrica Jewelry)
This outfit just breathes cool simplicity, which was perfect for the day (seeing that it was over 90 degrees outside).
The story behind this look starts behind the purchase of the dress. As detailed above, I got this dress from Urban Outfitters. Now I LOVEEEEE Urban. It's one of my favorite stores of all time... But as aligned as Urban Outfitters is with my style's taste, you well never see them get a full-priced cent out of me. NEVER. The beauty in my relationship with this retailer is that they know this about me (and other budget savvy fashionistas like me) so they have a sale room... that's well, always on sale. lol That said, whenever I'm anywhere near an Urban with time to kill (and sometimes even when I don't), I always make a point to stop by and head straight to my special room. The sale room rarely disappoints, especially when there's an additional sale, on top of the sale. I know, mind blowing, right? This dress originally retailed for somewhere near $70 (or something crazy like that). Ask me why, I don't know. But what I do know is that the price dropped down to $19.99, and then there was an additional half-off sale, sale. So I got the dress for a whopping $9.99! Talk about a come up.
My reaction when I learned Urban Outfitters half-off-sale sale (and that it was a recurring thing).
I happened upon this dress 4 months after Arria was born, and at a time of my life when (if it wasn't frowned upon-- or illegal), I would have walked the streets naked. Not because I felt sexy or was in love with my body (because Lord know's that wasn't the case); but rather because it was so HOT and nothing in my closet fit well. I wanted to throw everything away. Instead, I looked to purchase some pieces that were forgiving and conducive to my new mommy lifestyle and fluctuating body. Pieces like this little gem of a dress.
There's a fun story behind my purse too. Back when I was just starting to hit the City scene I would go to a lot of events. I purchased this Dooney & Bourke (which was huge at the time), from an event that was also a thrift store Pop-up. I saw it and immediately wanted it, but only had $20 in my wallet. The bag was being sold for about 45 bucks (they really retail starting around an average of $149, and can go up to over $300). Obbbbviously, I didn't have that money-- but I kept my eye on it all night. At the end of the event I made my way over to the shop owner and some way, somehow I was able to talk her down to $25. I gave her the 20 bucks I had in my wallet and put $5 on my debit card. The bag has been one of my favorite summer/rainy day bags ever since! It's so durable, and the neutral color works with pretty much anything. Even my thrifted off-white Perry Ellis belt (which is styled with this look)!
As far as my feet go, please don't mind the ash. lol I found these awesome metallic sandals last year before my trip to Cuba with the Hubbae. I was in the market for cute, comfortable shoes that could be dressed up/down, and that would pair well with many of my outfits. I never thought they would come in form of Silver gladiator sandals fashioned after Birkenstocks, and by a brand called Yokono! When I put the shoes on they felt like a dream. ...and the price tag of $24.99 helped make that dream, my closet's reality.
These shoes are super comfy, and they definitely proved their value while we were on the trip; even after hours of touristing around town, my feet didn't feel it-- not even the next day. My experience of the sandals on that trip made me a huge fan of this Spanish brand (and you guys know I love almost anything Spain based); so now every time I'm in Marshalls and see a pair of their shoes I make it a mission to search for my size.
Anyways, as we're speaking of summer, I'm itching to get out of the house, away from my computer, and out to play with the kids. The great outdoors are calling, and I'm looking forward to soaking in the sweet sunshine while it lasts. So on that note, I'll end today's thrifty post here.
Until the next time, #LiveRi¢h and Happy Dream Chasing!
