Black Breastfeeding Week 2018
If reading is fundamental, then so is breastfeeding
Breastfeeding isn't a trend. Breastfeeding isn't "a white" thing.
Breastfeeding isn't a "hippie" or "crunchy mom" thing.
Breastfeeding isn't something to be ashamed of.
Breastfeeding isn't only for stay-at-home moms.
Breastfeeding isn't something we should be expected to hide while at work.
Breastfeeding isn't a woman trying to be sexy or "show off" her body.\
Breastfeeding is a mothers way of finishing what she started:
Nurtuturing her child, with the nutritious nourishment that she creates naturally.
Breastfeeding is simply a mothers way of sustaining the life(s) that she carried for months...
If you're a follower of this blog, or a follower of my page on Instagram) then it has been made quite evident to you that I am an advocate and fan of breastfeeding. I love breastfeeding, but as I shared in a previous post, I love it so much more this second time around. I enjoy it so much more in fact, that I've gone out to seek communities of breastfeeding women (and other moms) in general-- and every time I see another mom out in public living her best life (with a babe on the tit), I make sure to give her a "what up?!" nod of camaraderie. I see you sis!
I've even gone a step farther this time around to seek, celebrate, and support, holidays and spaces that encourage us women who breastfeed. So when I was told that Black Breastfeeding Week (BBW) was a thing I couldn't help but get super excited, and mad at myself at the same time. How could I have not knowwwwwn?!?!?! lol A bunch of black breastfeeding moms? Where are they, and how can I link up with them? Those are my people!
This year BBW will be in its 6th year and falls on the week of August 25th-31st. Come back to check-in throughout the week as I look forward to sharing some really amazing collaborations, opportunities to connect, and content throughout the week.
In any case, I hope you enjoy. In the meantime, take a moment to share the reasons why you celebrate (or support) Breastfeeding awareness month, and Black Breastfeeding Week. And if you'd like to add to the conversation all over the inter-webs be sure to use the hashtags: #betonblack and #BWDBF #BBW18 or #LoveOnTop. Until the next time, #LiveRi¢h and Happy Dream Chasing!
